POINT CLEAR, Ala. – Led by senior LoraLie Cowart, Georgia Southern combined to score a one-under-par 287 to lead the field on the first day of the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golf Championship held at the Lakewood Golf Club.

Georgia Southern was the only team to finish under par and holds a three-stroke lead over the field. South Alabama sits in second (+2) and Coastal Carolina is third (+3). The three teams are paired together for round two and will tee off hole one starting at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Cowart had the low round of the day with a 68 (-4), followed by Southern Miss’ Momoka Ando who carded a 70 (-2), with five tying with for third with a 71 (-1) and three players tying for eighth with a even-par 72.

The second round of the 54-hole championship begins at 8 a.m. CT on Tuesday and will be broadcast on ESPN+ with live scoring available through Scoreboard.

The Lakewood Golf Club, a member of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, had its beginnings in 1944. Perry Maxwell, designer of the Tulsa Southern Hills Country Club, created Lakewood’s original Dogwood course in 1947, making it the first professional quality golf course in south Alabama. Lakewood Golf Club hosted the 1974, 1986 and 2021 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.
