NEW ORLEANS – Sun Belt Conference women’s soccer teams will square off with a full slate of cross-divisional matchups during the third weekend of league competition.
The weekend schedule begins with two matches on Friday, September 26, followed by three on Saturday and two more on Sunday.
JAGS FROM THE JUMP
South Alabama (7-2, 3-0 SBC) is the only Sun Belt team to win each of its first three conference matches which includes divisional wins over Louisiana and Southern Miss and a cross-division victory over Coastal Carolina. The Jaguars have outscored league opponents, 11-1, with eight different players registering at least one goal. The reigning West Division champions have scored four more goals than any other Sun Belt team in conference play and are one of three teams to allow just one goal through their first three matches. Junior forward Aliya Gomes leads the Sun Belt with six points in league play, as redshirt sophomore forward Ava Matherne has one assist in each of the Jags’ last three wins.
ULM UNBEATEN STREAK
Holding the Sun Belt’s longest active unbeaten streak (5-0-1) at six-straight matches, ULM (7-2-1, 2-0-1 SBC) travels to Conway, S.C., for a Friday evening contest at Coastal Carolina (3-4-2, 0-1-2 SBC). The Warhawks’ streak began with a 2-1 win over Little Rock on Aug. 27, and they have outscored opponents, 11-4, during the run, and seven of their 11 goals have been scored by a different player. Additionally, ULM has recorded three shutout wins among their five victories during the stretch.
PUTTING UP THE POINTS
Five Sun Belt teams rank among the top 50 nationally in points per game this season, led by No. 14 Texas State (7.90), No. 20 South Alabama (7.33), No. 25 Marshall (7.11), No. 27 Arkansas State (7.00) and No. 45 Georgia State (6.45). Texas State is also seventh in total assists (27), 15th in total goals (26) and 17th in assists per game (2.70), as South Alabama leads the Sun Belt and ranks 12th in the country in scoring offense (2.67) ahead of Texas State in 16th (2.60).
FADDOUL FIRING AWAY
Georgia State junior forward Aaliyah Faddoul currently ranks No. 1 among NCAA Division I players in shots on goal per game (3.00) and total shots per game (5.64). The Preseason All-Sun Belt Team selection ranks first in the conference in total shots (62) and shots on goal (33) this season and her 4.67 shots on goal per game in league play also leads the league.
HOME COMFORT
Texas State owns the longest active unbeaten streak at home against Sun Belt opponents at 12-consecutive matches. The Bobcats own a 8-0-4 record against league opponents in San Marcos going back to late in the 2022 season, while Old Dominion holds the second-longest streak at 11-straight with a 6-0-5 mark going back to the 2023 campaign. James Madison is next on the list, undefeated in their last eight league matches at home (7-0-1), followed by Georgia State (4-0-1) and South Alabama (4-0-1) at five in a row.
