NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion’s Kira Matushkina was joined by teammates Marina Markina and Uladzislava Manzhos as the athletes earn the first Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Players of the Week honors of the season.

Kira Matushkina, Old Dominion

Old Dominion junior Kira Matushkina opened the season with a 2-1 showing in singles play at the Michigan invite. Matushkina lost her opening match of the weekend against No. 10 nationally ranked Luciana Perry from Ohio State. The St. Petersburg native bounced back on day two with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win over No. 3 nationally ranked Piper Charney from Michigan. Matushkina finished the weekend with a straight set win over Xavier’s Abby Nugent, 6-4, 6-2.
Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Marina Markina / Uladzislava Manzhos, Old Dominion
The Old Dominion duo of Marina Markina and Uladzislava Manzhos finished 2-1 at the Michigan invite. The pair won their opening match against Xavier 6-3 on Friday. The pair fell 7-5 to Ohio State on Saturday. The duo rallied on Sunday to defeat the Michigan pair 6-2 for a winning record over the three day event.
