Major Matchups Take Place in Final Week of Sun Belt Women's Basketball Regular Season

NEW ORLEANS - Meaningful matchups fill the final week of the Sun Belt women's basketball regular season with 14 teams making a final push up the league standings.

GAME OF THE WEEK
Georgia Southern (21-6, 14-2) heads to Marshall (23-7, 13-4) on Friday for both programs regular season finale. The two teams met just a week ago in Statesboro, where the Eagles took down the Herd in commanding fashion, 76-55. Neither team can drop below the fifth seed heading into the conference tournament with a win or a loss this week. Georgia Southern is in a prime position, currently tied at the top of the league standings with Troy (23-5, 14,2). In their last meeting Georgia Southern’s Kishyah Anderson had a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double, one of four players on the team to score in the double figures, a consistent theme for the Eagles as they are one of two teams in the league with four players averaging double-digit scoring figures. Marshall was led by Timaya Lewis-Eutsey who had 21-points and five rebounds, the only player to reach double-digit scoring figures for the Herd.

TROJANS AND THE REDWOLVES
Troy and Arkansas State face off for the second time this season in another pivotal matchup between two of the leagues top teams. Troy's won eight straight league games and sit tied for first in the conference standings. If they win out, the Trojans will secure a share of the regular-season title for the fourth time and first since 2022. The Trojans took down the Redwolves 86-64 on Jan. 10th, ending a three-game losing streak to Arkansas State. The Redwolves were last season's two seed in Pensacola and have followed down a similar path this season. Arkansas State is 11-1 at home, and look to use that to their advantage as they host Troy.

PLAYERS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Multiple Sun Belt players rank within the top 25 of the national rankings at this point in the season. Troy’s Zay Dyer has 20 double-doubles on the year which ties for the most in the country with one other player. The forward is also third in total rebounds (365) and 4th in rebounds per game (13.0). Troy’s Emani Jenkins is tied for third in three pointers per game (3.19) and second in total three pointers (192). Jenkins and Dyer’s teammate Fortuna Ngnwao ranks 18th in rebounds per game (10.4) and 11th in double-doubles (16). Marshall’s Timaya Lewis-Eutsey ranks fourth in the country in steals (108), seventh in steals per game (3.60), fifth in free throws made (202) and 25th in points per game (19.3). Riley Stack of Old Dominion ranks fourth in blocks (74) and seventh in blocks per game (2.55).

DUKES ON A RUN
James Madison (21-8, 12-4) is on a seven-game win streak, the current longest in the league. Sitting at fifth in the league standings the Dukes look to stay hot heading into Pensacola with just two games remaining in their regular season. They will face Old Dominion and Coastal Carolina on their home court where they are 13-3 this year, with wins over both ODU and Coastal Carolina already this season. The Dukes were the number one seed heading into last year’s conference tournament and cannot drop below a fifth seed looking ahead to this year’s conference tournament. Since joining the Sun Belt James Madison has never been outside of the top three heading into Pensacola.

IN THE NET
Five Sun Belt teams rank in the top 100 of the NET. James Madison has the best NET at 48, followed by Georgia Southern (71) Troy (73), Arkansas State (91) and Marshall (97).
