No. 11 Southern Miss & No. 15 Coastal Carolina Attempt to Maintain Conference Streaks in Sun Belt Baseball Weekend Action

WEEK 3 CONFERENCE NOTES

NEW ORLEANS
– Nationally-ranked No. 11 Southern Miss and No. 15 Coastal Carolina will attempt to maintain conference series winning streaks at home this weekend, while nationally-noted Arkansas State and Louisiana will also look to get back on track in friendly confines.

The Sun Belt’s seven teams ranked among the Top 75 of the RPI will square off against the bottom half of the league across seven weekend series.

All 21 Sun Belt games this weekend will be broadcast nationwide on ESPN+.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • RISING – Seven Sun Belt programs—No. 11 Southern Miss (3 RPI), No. 15 Coastal Carolina (14 RPI), Louisiana (16 RPI), Arkansas State (33 RPI), Texas State (38 RPI), Troy (54 RPI) and South Alabama (68 RPI)—are ranked among the Top 75 in the RPI entering the third weekend of conference play, including three among the Top 20. The Golden Eagles and Chanticleers are ranked in all five national polls, while Louisiana, Arkansas State and Texas State are each receiving votes nationally.
  • K ZONE – Four of the nation’s most efficient pitchers hail from the Sun Belt, with Texas State graduate student right-hander Kyle Froehlich (3rd, 17.00), Marshall senior left-hander Bryce Blevins (5th, 14.67), Southern Miss sophomore right-hander Camden Sunstrom (15th, 10.67) and Coastal Carolina junior right-hander Ross Norman (16th, 10.50) each ranking among the Top 20 in the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio.
  • BACK ON TRACK – After dropping road Sun Belt series last weekend to fall out of the national rankings, Arkansas State and Louisiana will look to get back on track as they return home for three-game weekend sets. The Red Wolves will play host to James Madison, while the Ragin’ Cajuns will welcome in-state rival ULM to Lafayette. The Red Wolves are 3-1 against the Dukes since they joined the Sun Belt ahead of the 2023 season. The Warhawks—1-of-3 teams with a winning record in Sun Belt play through the first two weekends—picked up their first series win over the Ragin’ Cajuns since 2012 a year ago in Monroe. ULM owns the Sun Belt’s top-scoring offense thus far, averaging 8.9 runs per game to rank 26th in the nation.
  • LAST OF THE UNBEATENS – No. 15 Coastal Carolina—which has not lost a game to a Sun Belt Conference opponent since April 6, 2025—is the last remaining unbeaten in conference play this season, having swept App State and James Madison to open Sun Belt action. The Chanticleers will visit Marshall, which is off to a 5-1 start in league play, for a three-game series in Huntington this weekend. The Chanticleers and Thundering Herd met on five occasions in 2025, with Coastal Carolina sweeping the regular-season series in Conway and winning a pair of neutral-site matchups during the Sun Belt Baseball Championship. Coastal Carolina is 11-0 against Marshall since the Thundering Herd joined the Sun Belt ahead of the 2023 campaign.
  • DEFEND THE PETE – No. 11 Southern Miss will welcome App State to Pete Taylor Park for the first time as conference opponents this weekend. The Golden Eagles are 5-1 against the Mountaineers since joining the Sun Belt ahead of the 2023 season and have not lost a Sun Belt series at Pete Taylor Park over the same span.
