PENSACOLA, Fla. - No. 12 South Alabama and No. 10 ULM secured their spots in the third round of the 2026 Visit Pensacola Sun Belt Women's Basketball Championship with victories on Wednesday.
Game 3: (12) South Alabama 80, (9) Coastal Carolina 70 [Box Score]
No. 12 South Alabama will spend Thursday morning in the Pensacola Bay Center after an upset victory over No. 9 Coastal Carolina, winning 80-70.
South Alabama’s Chrysta Narcisse led all scorers with 24 points, shooting 63.6 percent from the floor and 80.0 percent from beyond the arc. She was joined by Diawna Carter-Hartley and Amyah Sutton in double figures with 18 and 16 points, respectively.
Coastal Carolina senior Kristin Williams led her team with 16 points, while the Sun Belt’s freshman of the year, Kinsea Grimes, recorded a 14-point, 12 rebound double-double.
The Chants led 20-16 after the opening 10 minutes of the game but would let the Jaguars come storming back in the second quarter, outscoring Coastal Carolina 23-14 to retain a 39-34 lead heading into the half.
In the third South Alabama would lead by as much as 11 before allowing Coastal Carolina to cut into the deficit. A 10-3 run by the Chants would cut the lead to just four, before back-to-back jumpers from Carter-Hartley would shift the momentum in South Alabama's favor.
The Jaguars would hold a 57-51 lead heading into the final quarter of the game.
South Alabama had a nine-point lead with just under six minutes to play when a fight would break out, leading to multiple ejections and sending Coastal Carolina to the line for four free throws.
South Alabama would hold onto their lead, winning 80-70 and securing their spot in the third round of the tournament.
The Jaguars will face the No. 8 seed, Texas State tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. CT.
Game 3: (14) Louisiana 63, (9) ULM 79 [Box Score]
No. 9 ULM would open the tournament with a dominant 79-63 victory over No. 14 Louisiana.
The Warhawks were led by Marcavia Shavers who recorded a 21-point, 13 rebound double-double, her 11th of the season. Jasmin Jackson netted 17 points, J’Mani Ingram had 16, while Keshunti Nichols finished with 12.
The Ragin’ Cajuns were led by Mikayla Manley who dropped 18 points, supported by Imani Daniel with 17 and Amijah Price, who recorded 12 points.
ULM opened the game with a 9-0 run, not allowing a field goal from Louisiana until the six-minute mark. While Louisiana began to find a rhythm, ULM would hold a 17-7 lead after the opening quarter.
The Warhawks continued to fire on all cylinders in the second quarter, shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from three-point range, extending their lead to 20 at the half.
Down 21-41 Louisiana would attempt to find a way to cut into ULM’s lead but would only get as close as 14. The Ragin Cajun’s Lily Ba would hit a three to end the third, entering the fourth quarter down 63-44.
A win would be out of reach for Louisiana, as ULM continued to find ways to score and secure the 79-63 victory.
No. 10 ULM will face No. 7 Southern Miss tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. CT.
