NEW ORLEANS – Representing the Sun Belt Conference, James Madison senior women’s golfer Amber Mackiewicz has been appointed to serve as a member of the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advocacy Committee (SAAC).

Mackiewicz’s term on the committee will begin September 1, 2026 and continue through August 31, 2028. In her role, Mackiewicz will play an active role in conference and national SAAC meetings, acting as a liaison between campus, conference and the national SAAC while staying up to date on issues and updates from both the Sun Belt and the NCAA.
 
A Virginia Beach, Va., native, Mackiewicz, has made the President’s List and Dean’s List each year at James Madison while also being named a JMU Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athlete. On the links, she played in a career-high 12 rounds during the 2025-26 campaign.
 
The mission of the National SAAC is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image. Each NCAA Division has a National SAAC that is tasked with generating a student-athlete voice within the NCAA structure, soliciting student-athlete responses to proposed NCAA legislation, recommending potential NCAA legislation, reviewing, reacting and commenting to the governance structure on legislation, activities and subjects of interest, actively participating in the administrative process of athletics programs and the NCAA and promoting a positive student-athlete image.
