South Alabama & Old Dominion To Play For Sun Belt Men’s Tennis Championship

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. –
 The tournament’s top two seeds will meet for the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Championship at the Peachtree City Tennis Center on Saturday. The Regular Season Co-Champions No. 1 South Alabama and No. 2 Old Dominion each won their semifinals. 

Old Dominion defeated sixth-seeded Georgia State 4-0 in the first semifinal on Friday. South Alabama secured the doubles point and outlasted Troy 4-1 in the final match of the day. Both matches were won on court two singles.

Saturday’s Sun Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Championship is scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET start and the action will be broadcast live on ESPN+. 

Match 6: (2) Old Dominion 4, (6) Georgia State 0

Second-seeded Old Dominion used a trio of two set singles wins to earn the 4-0 sweep over Georgia State in the first matchup.

Georgia State (8-16) held a lead at number four singles; however the match went unfinished. 

Old Dominion (17-9) earned the early 1-0 lead with the doubles point. Luca Maldoner and Jakob Cadonau won on court two 6-3 with Francois Le Tallec and Cosme Rolland De Ravel securing the point shortly after 6-1 on court three.
 
Rolland De Ravel added the second point of the match for the Monarchs in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 on court three. Nicola Vidal earned the 6-3, 6-3 win on court six to put Old Dominion ahead 3-0. Le Tallec earned the 6-4, 6-3 win on court two to send the Monarchs to their first Sun Belt Conference championship match.



Match 7: (1) South Alabama 4, (4) Troy 1

Top seed South Alabama forced a pair of three-set matches to win 4-1 over Troy in the second semifinal.

Troy (18-7) kept all doubles matches close despite losing the point. Llinares earned the lone point for the Trojans on court five with the first finish 6-0, 6-3. 

South Alabama (17-7) earned the 1-0 lead with the doubles point. Louis Delcour and Javier Montoya earned the 6-4 win on court three. Jack Clements and Maxime St-Hilaire secured the point on court one 6-4.
 
Despite Troy tying the match at one in the first singles match, South Alabama responded just moments later as Javier Montoya (6-1, 6-4) and Louis Delcour (6-2, 6-3) won on courts six and three to give the Jaguars the 3-1 lead.
 
After falling in the first set 6-3, Maxime St-Hilaire finished the match with a pair of 6-2 sets to send the Jaguars back to the conference championship match.
