Old Dominion Captures Fourth Consecutive Sun Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Championship Crown

ROME, Ga. – For the fourth time in as many years, Old Dominion captured the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Championship hosted by the Rome Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

Since joining the league four years ago, the Monarchs have won every Sun Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Championship they have attended. They will head to the NCAA Tournament with a 20-6 record and are currently ranked No. 54 nationally.

The match Sunday started with No. 2 seed Troy (24-5) capturing the doubles point for the third consecutive match at the championship. Luciano Alcocer and Hiiro Sakamoto won 6-3 on court two as Thiago Drozdowski and Stephan Tavares Noale secured the point on court one, 6-4.

Facing a 1-0 deficit, Old Dominion responded in singles by winning five of the six first sets across the six court spread. Adam Majchrzak won on court one 6-0, 6-3 to tie the match at one. Across three matches, Majchrzak lost just three games to outscore his opponents 36-8 in games won.

Aryan Saleh was the next to finish for the Monarchs on court six, 6-0, 6-3. Saleh had provided the heroics in the two previous matches with the clinching point but pulled Old Dominion ahead 2-0 in the title tilt. Piet Steveker was the next Monarch to secure a point on court two with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. For the third consecutive year, a Monarch freshman secured the title as Zechariah Hamrouni won 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 on court five to secure the title.
