Old Dominion Claims 2023 Sun Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament Title

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. –
 No. 70 Old Dominion defeated top seeded South Alabama 4-2 to claim the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship in Peachtree City, Ga. In their first season in the league, the Monarchs claimed a share of the Regular-Season Championship as well as their first tournament title. 

Old Dominion improved to 18-9 with the victory. South Alabama had won three of the last four Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championships entering the match.
 
Doubles First Team All-Conference pairing Younes Lalami and Brandon Perez secured the first match on court one 6-2, before Francois Le Tallec and Cosme Rolland De Ravel put the Monarchs ahead 1-0 with the doubles point.
 
Jakob Cadonau added the first singles point for the Monarchs on court four 6-3, 6-3. Two-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year Sebastien Collard brought the match back to within one with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court one.
 
Rolland De Ravel continued his winning streak in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to put the Monarchs one point away from victory, 3-1. Javier Montoya answered on court six for the Jaguars with a 6-3, 6-4 victory to bring the team score to 3-2.
 
After falling in the first set, Luca Maldoner secured the Monarch victory with wins on court five 6-2, 6-4.
 
Old Dominion earns the Sun Belt Conference’s automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament selection show is slated for Monday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
