ROME, Ga. – Coastal Carolina maintained its lead on Wednesday in the opener for the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Championship at the Rome Tennis Center. They advance to face No. 1 seed Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals. 

The eighth seeded Chanticleers started the tournament with a thrilling match as they defeated No. 9 seeded James Madison 4-2. Coastal Carolina advances to face the 2024 Regular Season Co-Champions at 10 a.m. EST. The matche will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

Coastal Carolina won the doubles point and controlled the match to defeat James Madison 4-2 on Wednesday. The Chanticleers (10-13) picked up the doubles point as the duos of Lucas Wayenburg / Guilherme Toresan and Carlos Berna Ruiz / Ryuya Ata won on courts one and two, respectively. 

James Madison (7-14) won on courts one and two as Youssef Sadek and Julian Lozano won in straight sets to tie the match at 2-2. 
 
Coastal Carolina tied the match at two with a win on court five as Guilherme Toresan won 6-3, 6-3. Wayenburg forced a third set tiebreak as Eric Tripathi and Juan Cruz Collardin won on courts four and six in the third set to seal the match. Collardin tallied the match point on court six, winning the final frame 6-3.
