Old Dominion Captures 2024 Sun Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament Title

ROME, Ga. --- No. 56 nationally ranked Old Dominion defeated No. 63 ranked Georgia Southern 4-1 to claim its second consecutive Sun Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament Championship. The Monarchs won on four singles courts to earn the 4-1 victory at the Rome Tennis Center.
 
Old Dominion improved to 20-7 on the year with the victory. Georgia Southern finishes the season with a 15-9 ranking, after advancing to the championship match for the first time in program history.

Cosme Rolland de Ravel and Codie van Schalkwyk won the first doubles match on court two for the Monarchs. Georgia Southern responded on court three with a 6-3 win from Laurent Julia Calac and Aaron James Williams. The Doubles Second Team All-Conference pairing of Dimitris Paliouras and Pol del Castillo secured the early lead for the Eagles on court one by a margin of 6-4.
 
The Monarchs answered back with the first victory in singles as Maxime Mareschal-Hay won 6-3, 6-0 to tie the match at one. Codie van Schalkwyk gave Old Dominion a 2-1 lead on court four with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win.
 
On court six, Old Dominion’s Aryan Saleh overcame defeat in the second set to win 6-3 in the third to put the Monarchs one point away from consecutive titles. Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Connor van Schalkwyk provided the finishing touch after losing the first set to win 6-3, 7-5 as Old Dominion captured its second consecutive crown.
 
Old Dominion earns the Sun Belt Conference’s automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament selection show is slated for Monday, April 29 at 6:00 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
